SUP Yoga in Tenerife
Restore your body and mind amidst nature
SUP yoga or Paddle Yoga (Yoga practiced on a SUP board) is not another silly city dweller fashion: water has no dust, it produces less noise, and the light breeze and slight undulation works to calm the soul down. The surface of the water is like a lie detector for classic asanas: for the incorrect movements you will take a wet dive. Relieve yourself from the space of four walls. Our yoga studio is the Atlantic.
Our SUP Yoga lessons
Yoga specialists believe that by accumulating all our residing powers we can move mountains. Yoga (and SUP yoga) is one of the most effective methods of maintaining good physical and spiritual health, recognized by medical doctors and scientists. Adventures, discoveries and change of environment during your holidays will let you get away from the routine, but it is also important to be able to rest spiritually – spend a little bit of time for yourself.
The sun is slowly descending into the pine forest on the side of the lake, the wind is gently caressing your body, which is covered in little sweat drops, and your feet are slightly wet from the cool lake water. Have you ever wanted to exchange the permeated walls of a sweaty gym for the tranquility offered by Mother Nature?

On the other side of the Atlantic, instructors of yoga and Pilates seek to perform their exercises on the water. SUP Yoga has recently become the fastest growing water sport in the world.
The intense paddling on the SUP board is a great exercise. However, if you combine the benefits of this type of Stand Up Paddling with the benefits of yoga or Pilates, in addition to the peaceful and soul-soothing power of the sun, water and trees, you can enjoy an intoxicating cocktail of energy and harmony.
When performing the classic exercise of moving your hips and legs in a circle, your instructor must regularly remind you to stabilize your pelvis, otherwise you will be moving your weight from one hip to the other. When exercising on the SUP board, the board will let you know that your pelvis is unstable by swinging, and your uncontrolled leg movements and shaky hips may make you have to take a wet dive.
The same effect is achieved in the course of exercises for the abdomen and the back muscles. The board will make you start stabilizing your muscles. Some exercises may require a lot of effort. When performing a sideways leg lift, you may have to stabilize not only your abdomen but also your scapula. Yoga exercises on a SUP board are a serious and yet very fun challenge.
Yoga in nature and on a SUP board is much more beneficial than in an indoor studio. Early in the morning, Evelina performs yoga asanas. To wake her hand and legs, she stretches her palms and feet, slowly lifting her bottom part upwards, relaxing her neck as if extending her back. Her golden hair covers her face, but when casting a look between her knees she does not see the white wall of her yoga studio, but a peaceful blue ocean. Seagulls fly far away, she can feel the gentle breeze and at any moment, her feet can be washed by a warm, yet cooling wave. No, it’s not a dream!
‘This is very different from what we do in the yoga studio,’ – says Evelina, professional yoga instructor and SUP boarding enthusiast, after she started her yoga exercises on stand up paddle boards. ‘You perform your exercises in close connection with nature. It’s like meditation – complete relaxation and a great feeling!’
In the last years, this type of yoga has become popular because of this special feeling of freedom that being in the water is able to provide, whereas classic yoga is practices on the floor. In the studio, yoga is performed with a level of stress, created by thinking about the errors one has made and by forgetting what a fun pastime it actually can be.
