A little History of Tenerife

In December 1493, the Catholic Monarchs (Queen Isabel I de Castilla and King Fernando II de Aragón) granted Alonso Fernández de Lugo (a Spanish military man), the right to conquer Tenerife. In April 1494, hauling from Gran Canaria, the conqueror Alonso Fernández landed on the coast of today´s Santa Cruz de Tenerife and disembarked with around 2 thousand men on foot and two hundred men on horseback. After taking the fort, the army was ready to move inland, capturing the native kings of Tenerife and presenting them to the Spanish monarchs Isabel and Fernando.

Tenerife’s Climate

Tenerife is sometimes called the “Island of Eternal Spring”, because it has a warm climate during the whole year, with an mean temperature  of 18–25 °C (64–76 °F) in winter and 24–29 °C (75–84 °F) in summer.

There are many climatic contrasts on the island, especially during the winter months when you can enjoy the warm sunshine on the beach and go on a trip in the snow within a few miles, at 3 thousand metres (9,850 feet) above sea level, on the Teide volcano.
